Have you ever seen a face more perfect? Allow me to introduce this little angel(:
Meet Chabota, the little two year old boy I have been falling in love with since day 1 here in Zambia. It is amazing to me that every time I pick him up, I still get that little leap in my heart. I find myself thinking about him every minute I’m not with him, and every minute I’m with him, I wish even more that I could take him home to America.
I never knew I could feel this way about a child that wasn’t mine..but hey, isn’t that what adoption is all about? With my story, I should’ve known..!
Because the harsh reality is that I can’t take him back with me, I have decided to do my best to stay in his life and support him financially through school.
Yesterday, I got to sit down with his (super adorable) mom, and ask her if it would be alright to take care of Chabota’s school costs through grade 12. I was really nervous and we (Auldridge and I) did our best to word it in a way that was not offensive. She looked at me for a minute and then exclaimed, “One would have to be insane to refuse such an offer!” I was through the roof! I cannot wait to become closer with his mother, and I am so blessed to have been led to a family that actually needs this support.
I am also so thankful that he is so well taken care of. His mom is a single mother of four, which has got to be twice as hard here in Zambia. She works all night long, and then takes care of her family through the day. Chabota is one of the most well-mannered kids I have ever met, extremely intelligent, and (obviously) crazy cute. He is fed well and always has a lot of energy! He loves hugs and kisses and it breaks my heart to leave him at the school every day.
When I leave, Auldridge has promised to stop in randomly and check on him both at home and at school. I will be receiving grade and attendance updates as well. It makes my heart so happy that I can continue to know this amazing little boy as he grows!
