Chabota

Have you ever seen a face more perfect? Allow me to introduce this little angel(:Meet Chabota, the little two year old boy I have been falling in love with since day 1 here in Zambia. It is amazing to me that every time I pick him up, I still get that little leap in my heart. I find myself thinking about him every minute I’m not with him, and every minute I’m with him, I wish even more that I could take him home to America. I never knew I could feel this way about a child that wasn’t mine..but hey, isn’t that what adoption is all about? With my story, I...

1 Down, 6 To Go

I think it’s probably a pretty big deal that we are pretty much on location of one of the 7 Wonders of the World.I mean, technically speaking we are about a 15 minutes drive away, but that drive is peppered with adventure so it feels more like 2. (By adventure, I mean that the bus sounds and feels like it will literally fall apart at any moment.) When we arrive at the Victoria Falls, we trek across a highway, on some sketchy paths, and across a railroad to get to the entrance. We frequently comment on how different the arrival would be in a country like America, even just with a sign...

Living, Loving, Laughing

Laughter is so important to me. In my mind, laughter is connected to several character traits in a person that are essential to a team, and to life in general. Traits like intense love, humility, and deep joy. Whether it be through days and days of visa struggles, through the chaos of our family growing from 7 girls to 30 boys and girls overnight, or just through life here in general, there is that always present feeling of...

God is Doing Ten Thousand Things…

This morning I had a conversation with some of my team members.  We were talking about how our first three and a half weeks of this trip have been for each of us…  It came to light that all of us, in different ways, have been struggling with the work we’re doing here, and not feeling fulfilled in it. Not that we’re unhappy with what we’re doing. Quite the opposite, actually. We love the kids that we work with everyday and we LOVE to love on them in any way that we can.  We’ve already had many new and fun adventures in the weeks that we’ve...

the best of love.

I have a really really hard time being still. I like going and going and when I have a moment to be still I usually fill it with pointless junk or just find someone to talk to. I don’t usually use my alone time productively. I hate processing the things around me. Thinking too much means accepting not only the glorious things but also the things I don’t like or the things that need to change. This week and the last I’ve been sick nothing too crazy but as I only seemed to be getting worse I was asked to stay back and rest. Spending days alone on an empty compound in Africa...
