1 Down, 6 To Go

I think it’s probably a pretty big deal that we are pretty much on location of one of the 7 Wonders of the World.
I mean, technically speaking we are about a 15 minutes drive away, but that drive is peppered with adventure so it feels more like 2. (By adventure, I mean that the bus sounds and feels like it will literally fall apart at any moment.)

When we arrive at the Victoria Falls, we trek across a highway, on some sketchy paths, and across a railroad to get to the entrance. We frequently comment on how different the arrival would be in a country like America, even just with a sign or two ! Once we pay the small fee of $20, we are accosted by babboons trying to steal our lunches and marketeers trying to worm their way into our wallets.
But with each step, the roar of the water becomes louder, and the humid and exceited feeling in the air becomes ever more tangible. Finally, the trees part to reveal the beautiful Zambezi river, rushing over the cliff in amounts inconceivable to any normal human. I wonder what it would have been like to be part of David Livingstone’s group- the first to discover the Falls.
Problem is, because of the size of the Victoria Falls, there’s no such thing as “mist.” We like to think of it as a rainstorm, or a creative way to get your weekly shower over with. Anything and everything in sight is soaked through.
This means cameras are out of the question, but I guess trying to capture the enormity and beauty of the Falls would be pretty much impossible anyway, though we are able to get a few photos through a waterproof phone case.

If you get the chance to go on a spontaneous adventure, take it!
